Holy Week 2021 (Worship Packets Available)
Becc

Have you noticed that the daylight has been drastically increasing its presence in Bethel? It means that some day, when all this snow is gone, we will have spring and summer. Eventually there will be a plethora of plants and new growth. Just like when Jesus steps in and redeems our cold, sinful hearts. It excites me. This winter seemed harder than most and we don’t have all that behind us yet, but there is hope!

With the Easter season beginning two Sundays from now (on Palm Sunday, March 28th), there are some seasonal worship services available to help prepare our hearts for celebrating the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus. Service times will be the same this Sunday and next (21st and 28th). However, on Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday), the times will be different for the early service (see below). Sunday School will continue this Sunday and next, but will not happen on Easter Sunday. If you haven’t checked out Sunday School in a while, please do at 9:45 AM on Sundays. We had a dedicated team put in sound tiles to improve the sound whether attending in person or over Zoom. This is a great opportunity to study the Word with others.

See below for worship packets and services that are being held to help soften your hearts to the grace of God and the sacrifice of Jesus. There are a few additional activities listed that can be done in the privacy of your home. If you would like a worship packet, please let me know and I’ll get one to you in the next few days.

  • Holy Week Pennant #13: Jesus on the Cross
  • The Trials of Jesus, The Crucifixion coloring pages
  • Leaving Sin at the Cross: Read and reflect on . Spend some time in prayer about the sins you are currently struggling with. For perspective, consider the Fruit of the Spirit and the acts of the flesh (), the Ten Commandments (), the Greatest Commandment (), the Great Commission (). While we don’t live our faith with a checklist, such summaries of commands and holy attributes can serve to remind us where we fall short of the glory of God. They can remind us how unholy we are in comparison to the holy Creator. These lists aren’t the only ones in the Bible, but they are commonly known and often memorized. Focus on where you fall short and where you need Jesus to help carry you through sinful behaviors. Focus on where you need Jesus to redeem your life. Perhaps you lack self control; perhaps you struggle with pride. Identify the sinful behavior and ask Jesus to redeem that part of your life. “Nail” that sin to the cross, so to speak. Take the cross included in the worship packet (or make one of your own) and write the sin on the cross. And let it live there. Not because we believe the cross can make things better, but as a symbol of handing the sin over to Jesus and allowing Him to redeem your life. If doing this with children, you can think through this with them aloud. You may tell them that their answer will be confidential. You can color over the sin written, you can break the cross, you can leave it visible. Jesus has conquered sin and can help you redeem that area of your life. Allow Him. This activity is simply to help you symbolically hand over the sin and serve as a reminder that we need to allow Jesus to redeem us.
